The curtain is about to rise in the Willow Glen Little Theater, and before this season's Thursday and Fridays at the Theater opens, the school's music boosters should take a bow.
This fledging 1-year-old parent organization was created to raise funds for musical programs at Willow Glen High and Middle schools. The boosters decided that state and district budget cuts were not going to mean the end of a musical education. And we applaud these parents. They took charge of a sinking situation. The group created a series of Thursday night performances and raised $5,000 through their efforts.
Now the boosters are ready for the second season. They have tweaked the series so it plays mostly on Friday nights, to accommodate more families. Hopefully that will also translate to a greater return at the box office.
The first show in the series is a comedy act performed by 11-year-old Sarah
Kay. What a perfect way to begin the new season, a middle school student, with a professional track record, performing for her peers.
We encourage local residents to attend at least one of these performances, knowing that the cost of a ticket helps fund the purchase of instruments and choir outfits. A good show and a good cause--that's sweet music to everyone's ears.
