Parents and teachers
create the success
Congratulations to Willow Glen Elementary School, which just saw a huge leap in API scores, from 701-756. As Principal Dayle D'Anna noted in a letter sent home to parents, "This is a score to brag about."
In fact, it was the ninth highest gain in the entire county.
However, as president of the school PTA, I'd like to clarify a detail in the Willow Glen Resident. ("Willow Glen Elementary scores jump 55 points," Oct. 5.).
The article implies we did not meet our overall API growth target, which we did and then some. Willow Glen Elementary also met the requirements necessary under No Child Left Behind legislation. We're focusing on continuing the momentum for next year.
Many Willow Glen Elementary staff members reside in Willow Glen, and numerous dedicated parents volunteer their time. Throughout last year, they worked diligently with the children to improve test scores and build a strong school to make our neighborhood proud.
All of them deserve our thanks and a round of applause.
