By Kevin Sparrer
Marcos Corona was No. 2 in the Central Coast Section Division III cross country finals, and because of it the Willow Glen Rams finished No. 3.

Corona's second-place finish led the Rams to a team third at the CCS meet held Nov. 12 on the 2.95-mile course at Crystal Springs in Belmont.

Corona, a junior, ran 15:30, finishing 27 seconds behind St. Francis senior Ben Sitler and seven seconds ahead of third-place Nicolas Alvarado of St. Ignatius.

The Willow Glen speedster finished third overall in the CCS meet. Sitler was the overall winner at 15:03 with Matthew Petrillo of Los Gatos second at 15:04.

Supporting Corona's effort was teammate Mohamed Abdalla, who finished 14th in 16:24. Abdalla was 51st overall in CCS.

Justin McArthur crossed the finish line in 16:36, good enough for 21st place, and Samson Galato ran 17:02 for 26th. Robert Ramos completed the race in 17:03 for 27th.

The female Rams didn't have quite as much success as the males, but were still able to place fifth as a team in Division III and 18th overall in the 64-team field.

Kari Server led the Rams, finishing 12th in 19:29 and 54th overall.

Behind Server was Nancy Velazquez in 28th in 20:33, Hayley Tharp in 29th in 20:34, Maria Sosa in 40th in 20:50 and Michelle Moran in 46th in 21:02.

The Presentation girls finished third in Division III. Kathleen Dazzi led the effort for the Panthers with a seventh-place finish in 19:06, which was good enough for 33rd overall.

Katie Wallace finished in eighth in 19:08, Rebekah Phillips 21st in 20:04, Lauren Ruiz 31st in 20:39 and Christina Lee 44th in 21:01.
