Senior Scott London's work at the 2-meter position was a big reason Willow Glen rolled to a perfect 8-0 record during the water polo season in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.
London's efforts have been recognized by league coaches, as he is co-Most Valuable Player with Scott Morgan of Independence. Willow Glen coach Trevor Wiens also shares postseason kudos with Evergreen Valley's Paul McKenna as co-Coach of the Year.
Four other Willow Glen players join London on the all-league team. Senior Jason Tom and junior Reese Rotsaert are part of the first team, while sophomores Geoffrey DuBridge and Charlie Kane are on the second team.
In girls water polo, Leland repeated as the BVAL's undefeated champion, and junior Christy Stibbe again has been named the top player in the league.
Stibbe, a dominant player from her 2-meter position, is the Mt. Hamilton Division's Most Valuable Player for the second year in row. In fact, Stibbe also is an all-CCS second team selection, as voted by a large panel of coaches.
Joining Stibbe with special honors are coach Eric Rise and teammates Elena Santa Maria (Junior of the Yea) and Courtney Gold (Freshman of the Year). League coaches have named Willow Glen's Laura von Stockhausen Senior of the Year and Pioneer's Elyssa Samson Sophomore of the Year.
The first team also includes seniors Courtney Buchanan and Kelly Greene of Willow Glen. Rams Stacey Weatherford and Kate Waggoner are on the second team.
Presentation polo--Senior Jennifer Peters, recently named to the all-CCS second team, is one of five Presentation players that have been recognized by the West Catholic Athletic League.
Peters, senior Kelli Wing and junior Wren Wright are part of the WCAL's girls water polo first team, along with Kimberly Needham of Mitty. Another Panther senior, McKenzie Taylor, and junior teammate Kelly Gause are second team picks, as are Valley Christian seniors Christina Shilling and Caitlyn Moyles and Mitty senior Kristina Ericksen.
Girls volleyball
Willow Glen fought its way to a co-championship in the BVAL Santa Teresa Division and a pack of Rams received top honors. Angela Pizella nailed down the MVP honors while Emily Roberts was Senior of the Year and senior Stephanie Wilson was a first team selection. Coach Carlee Howie was named as Coach of the Year and senior Katie Joyce was selected to the second team.
West Catholic--Once again Mitty was the force to be reckoned with in West Catholic Athletic League girls volleyball race. The Monarchs were led by sophomore Amanda Gil, who was named MVP of the league as well as a first team all-league member. Gil was joined on the first team by teammates senior Chelsea Armer and senior Kelly Schmidt.
Other first team selections included Valley Christian senior Haley Carroll, Presentation sophomore Bridget O'Hara and St. Francis senior Chrissy Zirpolo.
Second team selections included junior Emily Ettel of St. Francis, senior Shannon McFadzean of Valley Christian, junior Christy McGuire of Presentation and seniors Sheena Donahue and Lacey Gera of Mitty.
Honorable mention recognition went to sophomore Alyson Boehm and freshman Taylor Smith of Mitty, seniors Bridget McAllister and Catherine Furtado of Presentation, senior Kimmy Schumann and junior Nicole Merslich of St. Francis, and Valley Christian senior Ashley Anders.
Girls field hockey
League competition was as tough as ever when Archbishop Mitty and St. Francis finished one-two in field hockey in the rugged Mt. Hamilton Division of the BVAL.
And the Monarchs and Lancers proved just how tough the Mt. Hamilton circuit is when they went on to tie for the Central Coast Section championship.
Mitty, a CCS co-champ for a second straight year, proved its worth this season by winning league and CCS titles, and the Monarchs were rewarded for their efforts when eight players received all-league recognition.
Senior Nora Souza was named the division's Most Valuable Player and junior Katie Fleury received the Outstanding Junior of the Year award. Seniors Kate Holcomb, Casey Ducheon, Rachel Carney and Molly Busch were all-league first team players and senior Kelly Enfantino and junior Jennifer Maez were both named to the second team. Mitty's Justin Williams was named the Coach of the Year.
In the West Valley Division, it was Presentation cleaning up with a title this season. The Panthers had six girls receive all-league awards. Sarah Miceli was the Junior of the Year and senior Cayla Derry and juniors Bridget Moran and Vanessa Quidiagon-Tran and senior Jessica Springer were made first team all-league. Sophomore Corrine Yeider was named to the second team.
The Del Mar Dons finished as part of a three-way tie for second with Branham and Homestead. The Dons had four girls receive all-league awards: senior Kelsey Martinez and junior Emily Holm were named to the first team and sophomore Christine Lee and senior Becca Giles were named to the second team.
The Willow Glen Rams had three girls receive recognition with junior Aracely Esquerra on the first team and junior Nadia Conroy and sophomore Jessica Method on the second team.
