Frandsen tourney
Los Gatos, Burlingame and Leland will join Bellarmine in first annual D.J. Frandsen Memorial Basketball Tournament to be held Dec. 22-23 on the floor at Bellarmine Prep.
The tourney is named in honor of Bellarmine graduate and Willow Glen resident D.J. Frandsen, who died of cancer on Sept. 16, 2004, at the age of 23.
First-round games on Dec. 22 will match Los Gatos with Burlingame at 6 p.m. and Leland with host Bellarmine at 8 p.m. First-round losers will play for third place at 6 p.m. on Dec. 23 with the winners playing for the championship at 8 p.m. Dave Frandsen, D.J.'s father, is the coach at Leland.
A player from each of the four teams will win a special "Spirit of D.J." award for sportsmanship, character and competitive spirit.
Tournament proceeds will benefit the D.J. Frandsen Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Girls soccer camp
The Presentation Winter Soccer Camp for girls ages 8 and over returns to Willow Glen on Dec. 28-30, 9 a.m. to noon each day. The cost is $99 per player. For more information, call Andrew Ransome at 408.446.0618.
Diamonds tryouts
The Diamonds, a girls 14 and under fast-pitch softball team, will hold tryouts on Jan. 8 at Presentation High School. Soccer camp
Santa Clara University assistant men's soccer coach Rusty Johnson will be the director for a pair of youth soccer camps Dec. 21-23 and Dec. 27-30 at the Santa Clara Youth Soccer Park. Camp hours are 9 a.m.-noon and the cost is $135 for the field player camp (ages 6-12) and $175 for the goalkeeper camp (ages 8-12 on Dec. 21-23 only).
