Meeting is planned
about BevMo site

Beverages & More will hold a community meeting on March 2 to discuss a conditional use permit and liquor license exception permit that will allow it to come into downtown Willow Glen at 1133 Lincoln Ave. The business wants to move into the former Barbarella site next door to Subways.

The meeting will take place in the cafeteria at Willow Glen Elementary School, 1425 Lincoln Ave., at 6:30 p.m.

San Jose limits the number of offsite liquor licenses to four per 1,000 feet, said city planner Rebekah Ross.

Willow Glen Liquors, Wine Styles and Kwik & Convenient Grocery and Liquor Store are the three existing locations that are within 1,000 feet of each other, according to Ross. The inclusion of Beverages & More will make four in that portion of Lincoln Avenue and Willow Street. The Grapevine, Quik Stop and T's Liquor Locker are not within the 1,000-foot radius of the proposed establishment.

For more information about the project or meeting, contact Steve McLaren from Beverages & More at 925.609.6002, or email him at mclarens@bevmo.com. Residents can also contact Ross in the San Jose Planning Department at 408.535.7842 or email her at Rebekah. Resident at top of his
game, funds secured

When the Cambrian Little League called for help, the community answered.

Last November, vandals stole the league's much-used tractor by breaking into a shed at a George Steindorf Jr. School field. Since then, the league's board has been trying to raise $4,000 needed to replace the tractor.

After an article appeared in the Willow Glen Resident regarding Lincoln Avenue business Elva Coffee Stop's plans to hold a raffle for the Little League, Willow Glen resident Ken McKenzie stepped up to the plate.

McKenzie, a board member for Air Systems Foundation, received approval from the organization to donate $6,200 to the Little League on Feb. 9. The funding will cover the cost of the tractor and a new shed.

Citizens needed to
serve on grand jury

Each spring Santa Clara County Superior Court judges identify qualified citizens who might serve on the Civil Grand Jury. Applications are now being accepted. The deadline to apply is Feb. 24. Grand jurors receive a nominal payment for meetings and free parking, when necessary.

Individuals selected for grand jury duty must serve a minimum of three days per week. Most grand jurors spend at least 20-25 hours per week serving the community.

The primary functions of the grand jury are to handle civil watchdog responsibilities, citizen complaints, and criminal investigations.

Each year, 30 prospective grand jurors from all five county supervisory districts are nominated. Nineteen members will then be chosen by random drawing and will serve a one-year term beginning on June 29.

For more information or to receive an application, contact Gloria Chacon, court manager, at 408.882.2721.
