Hard work recognized
by county supervisor

Congratulations to the Willow Glen Elementary School community for being selected as a California Distinguished School this year.

As it is a Title I school, I appreciate the additional challenges and excellent work Principal Dayle D'Anna, the Willow Glen staff and parents have done to achieve this distinction.

Willow Glen should be very proud of its community spirit, cultural richness and commitment to a quality educational system. It is clear the school community has set high standards for all students and that its staff cares deeply about their students' academic progress, health and well-being and personal growth.

The board of supervisors for Santa Clara County will honor Willow Glen Elementary for being selected as a 2006 California Distinguished School by presenting a resolution of commendation to the school later this month.

Congratulations again and keep up the stellar efforts.

Day Nursery grateful
for response to tour

The San Jose Day Nursery Willow Glen Lifestyles Home Tour committee wants to thank Patrick Coleman for his very positive response to this year's homes. ("Lifestyles homes are designed with taste, May 17"). It was an honor to be compared to the Sunset Idea House.

During our 24 years, we have consistently tried to provide a variety of homes that truly show the lifestyles of the Willow Glen community. This year's homes achieved this, and by having one home with a very large lot, we were able to add new boutiques and box lunches.

The welcomed sunshine, along with the generosity of the Willow Glen merchants who provided our door prizes, our many sponsors and guests made this our most successful year yet. The success of the event brought in more than $40,000 to the scholarship fund. These proceeds will allow us to provide quality childcare at the nonprofit day care center to low-income families.

We are looking forward to next year's tour, and are already considering several homes so please save the date. Remember, it's always the first weekend in May.
