Fourth Music in the Glen has five weeks of free concerts

Dancing on the Avenue has come and gone, but summer music in Willow Glen is just getting started. Willow Glen's next community event, the fourth annual "Music in the Glen" concert series, is just around the corner.
Residents are treated to five weeks of free concerts, while they enjoy a cool drink on the lawn of Willow Glen Elementary. The concerts start July 13 and run through Aug. 10.
This year's expanded concert hours are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The performances are still scheduled for Thursday nights and will take place in back of the elementary school, 1425 Lincoln Ave.
Michael Rubino, president of the Willow Glen Kiwanis, says the music lineup includes more diversity in styles.
The Willow Glen Kiwanis clubs began the free concerts in 2002 as a benefit to the community and to raise awareness about the organization's community service work.
The concert series has grown steadily in popularity, but it's still manageable, Rubino says.
"Our concert series is more family-oriented," he says. "We're an alcohol-free concert. Residents don't have to worry about unruly crowds."
The series is not a dry one, however. The club sells soda and water along with hot dogs, Polish sausages, nachos, popcorn and pretzels. All the proceeds benefit Willow Glen Elementary School and other charitable organizations in Willow Glen and throughout San Jose.
Sponsors for the event include the Willow Glen Resident, Peak Travel, Tim Casey Construction, Aqui's Cal-Mex Restaurant, Rotten Robbie and Prudential Realty.
