Teens robbed at gunpoint on Willow Glen High campus
By Laura Rheinheimer
Three teens were robbed at gunpoint shortly after 10 p.m. on Aug. 7 at Willow Glen High School.
An 18-year-old male, a recent Willow Glen High School graduate, and two 15-year-old female sophomores at the school, had jumped into the high school pool and were getting out when they heard two individuals jump over the fence into the pool area.
The men wore black ski masks and were armed with handguns. One man put a gun to the head of one of the girls, demanding the teenagers hand over their personal belongings, which included money, cell phones and keys to a 2001 gold Chevy Tahoe owned by the 18-year-old. The men jumped back over the fence and fled in the Chevy Tahoe, according to San Jose Police Department spokeswoman Gina Tepoorten.
A witness who was walking his dog near the high school saw the men jump back over the fence and called 911, according to police.
The police responded and immediately advised all police units to "be on the lookout." The department also activated its STAR1 helicopter unit, but was unable to locate the men.
The vehicle, which was equipped with an OnStar global positioning system, was found abandoned at midnight near Crescent Drive and Willow Street.
Police found some of the teens' belongings in the vehicle. The men are still at large.
The men are described as Hispanic, between 16 and 20 years old, approximately 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the San Jose Police Department robbery unit at 408.277.4166 or Crime Stoppers at 408.947.STOP.
