Willow Glen Elementary computer lab did not lose its funding, just its assistant
By Eli Segall
Parents of any future Bill Gateses at Willow Glen Elementary School need not worry. The school's computer lab was not shut down; it was merely put to sleep as administrators look for a new lab assistant.
The Willow Glen Neighborhood Association elist has been buzzing with rumors since school started Aug. 23, with parents speculating as to why the year began with a closed computer center.
One user wrote, "I heard computer classes at WG Elementary got stopped this year due to budget cutbacks. Can someone verify this? Is the PTA doing anything to add computer classes back on the curriculum?"
Willow Glen Elementary School Principal Dayle D'Anna squashed the rumor, saying that while the lab is indeed temporarily closed, rumors that computer education received the budget axe are not true.
The previous lab assistant did not return this year, and the school has not found a replacement. The school advertised for the position in early August, but not one applied, D'Anna said.
The lab assistant, a 20-hour per-week position, opens the classroom in the mornings, ensures computer software works smoothly, supports teachers' instructional lessons and helps guide Internet research.
The school would like to fill the position as quickly as possible. For more information, call 408.535.6265.
