Rams win opener in new league
By Dick Sparrer
It's been a few years since the Willow Glen football team has played in the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. But the Rams have returned to the circuit this fall, and made their debut an impressive one by pulling out a tight 21-19 victory over Andrew Hill.
Juan Baron hit on 8 of 13 passes for 130 yards, including touchdown passes to Anthony Doan for seven yards and Eliseo Anaya for 80, to lead the Rams to the close win.
Senior running back Marcos Garces carried 14 times for 112 yards, including a 29-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
Richard Martinez kicked the extra point after each Willow Glen touchdown, and that actually proved the difference in the game with the Falcons missing on a pair of point after attempts.
The Rams, now 3-1 in the young season, will return home this week to host Yerba Buena in league action on Oct. 7, 1:30 p.m. The Warriors are 0-4 (0-1 in league play) after getting blanked 21-0 by Overfelt last Friday.
