Teen accidentally
shot by boyfriend
A Gardner teenager, 17, accidentally shot his girlfriend while cleaning his .22-caliber pistol on Oct. 3, according to San Jose police.
The couple was in the teenager's home on the 700 block of Spencer Avenue as the boy was cleaning and waving his gun around, San Jose police spokesman Enrique Garcia said. The gun went off around 8:05 p.m., wounding the 19-year-old girl in the head.
The teenager's mother called for help and an ambulance transported his girlfriend to Valley Medical Center, where she was in critical condition.
The high school student, who had previously committed a felony, possessed the gun illegally and was on probation, Garcia said. He was booked into juvenile hall on multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, a felon in possession of a weapon and probation violation.
The teenager was on probation for previously setting fire to a school, according to the Oct. 4 watch commander's report. Garcia would not confirm which school, and the teenager's name was not released because he is a juvenile.
Imamura withdraws
from District 6 race
Hamann Park resident Brad Imamura withdrew his candidacy from the San Jose City Council District 6 race in early October.
Imamura is a 52-year-old real property agent for the city who has worked in public service for decades, including time in the code enforcement and planning divisions. He's lived in District 6 for more than 20 years, and said his candidacy was an extension of his public service to the city and to District 6.
"I didn't feel I could maintain a meaningful campaign with a lack of funds, and unfortunately, that's the factor in many campaigns," Imamura said. He also wanted to balance his political aspirations with his work and family, he said.
Imamura, who also ran for the Campbell Union High School District in 2000, does not know if he'll run again for public office.
Five candidates remain in the race, including Willow Glen residents Pierluigi Oliverio, an environmental software executive; Jim Spence, a retired police sergeant and neighborhood leader; Steve Tedesco, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Silicon Valley; and Clark Williams, a social worker and neighborhood leader. The final candidate, Art Maurice, is a technical recruiter and was twice president of the Cory Neighborhood Association.

Raffles, tickets and
turkey time at Elva's
Elva's Coffee Stop is in the raffling mood again, hoping to buy turkeys for needy families this Thanksgiving.
Elva's regular Angel Reyes, a Willow Glen resident who works at Fireside Realty, donated two courtside tickets to the Golden State Warriors' Feb. 25 game against the L.A. Lakers in the Oakland Arena. The coffee shop is selling raffle tickets for $5 apiece until the week before Thanksgiving.
The lucky winner will receive the two tickets, worth $450 each, and Elva owners Elva and Frank Acevedo will use the funds to buy turkeys and donate them to local nonprofits.
Earlier this year, the coffee shop raffled two Southwest Airlines tickets as a benefit to the Cambrian Little League, whose tractor was stolen. Their efforts attracted attention from the local business community, which donated items to the raffle, and Air Systems Foundation donated more than $6,000 to the Little League.
To purchase raffle tickets, visit Elva's Coffee Stop at 2206 Lincoln Ave. For more information, call 408.269.2245.

The store is looking to aid American Cancer Society's efforts for all breast cancer patients. Until the end of October, the store is selling pink ribbons for $1, and will enter each buyer's name into a drawing for a pink-themed styling kit worth $200. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
California Beauty Source, 1702 Meridian Ave., Suite K, is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, call 408.448.0111.
WGHS homecoming
is around the corner
As the leaves in the trees change to autumn reds, Willow Glen High School is preparing for its annual homecoming events.
This year's festivities will take place on Oct. 28 with the traditional parade on Lincoln Avenue beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The theme of this year's parade, Rams through the Years, will be evident through the '50s-style floats and the former homecoming kings and queens riding atop them.
