Tat, Groft net Santa Teresa second
By Dick Sparrer
Seniors Sandy Tat and Natalie Groft have been spent most of the year playing No. 2 and 3 singles for the Willow Glen girls tennis team this fall, but the two decided to join forces for the Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division tournament last week.
It was a decision that paid off nicely.
Tat and Groft combined for a second-place finish in the league doubles tournament. The pair defeated an Overfelt duo 6-0, 1-6, 6-3 in the tourney semifinals before losing a tough 6-2, 6-4 nod to a Prospect pair in the finals.
In regular season play last week, the Rams lost a couple of division decisions, falling 5-2 to Mt. Pleasant and 5-2 to Overfelt. Seniors Kristen Davis and Samantha Tsukiji combined for a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles in the loss to the Cardinals. Senior Stephanie Tran lost a tough three-set decision 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 against Overfelt.
