Kehmeier's humor is
worth a read, laugh
I'm just writing to thank you for publishing Dave Kehmeier's columns this past year. I'm guaranteed at least one laugh-out-loud whenever I read his articles.

Most jogging moms
run, cross cautiously
Trevor Graham's letter in the Nov. 22 issue of the Willow Glen Resident "People, please use the sidewalk; it's safer") ) poses the question regarding strollers in the street, "Is there a downside to using sidewalks that I'm unaware of?"
As a resident of Willow Glen who's had the run of these sidewalks and streets with my four daughters in a jogger for six years now, I would like to answer this question.
There are many days that I run with a triple jogging stroller that simply will not fit on a sidewalk. On the busiest streets, like Pine Avenue and the downtown, I slow down, and am forced to use the sidewalk for my daughters' safety.
However, when my friends and I get to the residential streets, we use our keen mommy powers, look both ways before crossing, and run with wild abandon, cautiously.
We are very aware of the traffic pattern, and fall in line behind each other when a vehicle approaches. Quite honestly, motorists are usually very respectful, and slow down, to make it known, that they do indeed see us. Sometimes we even get hollers of enthusiasm from other moms.
I can't speak for the jogger who pushes her infant down Lincoln Avenue at dusk. On this point, I agree with Trevor Graham, that it's not safe at all. But for those of us out there, moving our buns, trying to be healthy, and teaching our kids that being outside is a wonderful thing, let us run--and honk if you feel like it.
