Storm drain work
begins on Lincoln

The construction of the Lincoln and Brace Storm Drain Improvement project began Jan. 22. The work should be completed by Feb. 5.

This project is located along the west side of Lincoln Avenue between Brace and Minnesota avenues. Construction activities will consist of installation of new curbs and gutters, new storm drain catch basins near La Villa and between Le Boulanger and Mann's Jewelers, and storm laterals to facilitate storm water drainage along Lincoln Avenue.

The construction firm of Stoloski and Gonzalez Inc. is performing the work.

There will be minor disruptions to traffic flow along and around Lincoln Avenue due to temporary lane closures during the construction period. A minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction along Lincoln Avenue will be maintained at all times, and San Jose Police Department officers will be assigned to control traffic for the full duration of construction.

Some street parking within the project area may be temporarily unavailable for public use during the construction period. "Tow Away--No Stopping" signs will be clearly posted at least 24 hours in advance.

Work hours will be Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. where the work requires a one-lane closure or from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. where the work requires a two-lane closure.

Curtner Shell station
will be redeveloped

Owners of the Willow Glen Shell Gas Station at 1103 Curtner Ave. filed for a special use permit with the San Jose Planning Department on Jan. 18.

The permit would allow the owners to raze the vacant gas station and its associated structures, leaving 0.45 acres for development.

The old Shell station on the corner of Lincoln and Curtner avenues was decommissioned and set for demolition in August 2006.

According to Dell Dietrich of American Commercial Realty, the broker for the property, Shell is responsible for removing the gas tanks and leveling the building before the property can be developed.

Dietrich said the land is not for sale, but will be offered as a ground lease for up to 99 years to potential developers or businesses.

Dietrich said the property owners are open to all development suggestions, including retail development, an office building or a fast-food restaurant.
