Ruby Lee Nesbitt

Ruby Lee Nesbitt (née Parr) of Willow Glen died Jan. 23. She was 89. Nesbitt was born in Etowah County, Ala., on Aug. 19, 1917. During World War II, Nesbitt served with the U.S. Navy WAVES, or Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service.

During the war years, more than 100,000 women completed basic and advanced training at more than 40 different Navy schools, including those that once exclusively catered to men.

She married Loyd Brice Nesbitt on Dec. 12, 1946. He died in July 2006.

In the community, Nesbitt was active with the local Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion posts. She volunteered with the San Jose Public Library and was a docent for the Santa Clara County Historical and Genealogical Society.

Nesbitt is survived by her three children, Loyd Brice Jr., Margaret Ruth and Matthew Parr. The couple also had five grandchildren. Her first great-grandchild is expected in March.
