Alan Drew

Willow Glen resident Alan Drew died of a sudden illness on Feb. 2. He was 44.

Drew returned from a business trip to London and died suddenly. The cause of his death is unknown.

Drew was born June 13, 1962 in Norwich, England. He came to the United States to work in the high-tech industry in 1986 and met his wife, Tina, two years later. The couple has a 12-year-old son, Ian.

Tina said she traveled little before meeting her husband, and his passion for traveling was infectious. The family traveled extensively, including trips to many European countries, the Canary Islands, Morocco and Estonia.

At home, Drew tended a vegetable garden where he grew giant pumpkins for Halloween. The largest pumpkin weighed in at 121 pounds. During the holidays, Drew reveled in decorating their Tefler Avenue home with lights. The Drew home was often the brightest house on the block, Tina said.

Tina describes her husband as a soft-spoken and welcoming man.

"He was an amazing father, and all the children in the neighborhood thought of him as a second dad," she said.

His colleagues at Vhayu Technologies, where Drew worked as a software engineer, are helping with an educational fund the family has set up for Ian. Donations can be sent to the Ian Drew Fund, c/o Vhayu Technologies, 100 Cooper Ct., Los Gatos, CA 95032.

Beside his wife and son, Drew is survived by siblings Roger and Elizabeth Drew of England, and Patricia Drew of Switzerland. His parents, Sheila and Royle Drew, also reside in England.
