Gardner Advisory Council takes another look at top 10 priorities
By Mayra Flores De Marcotte
The Gardner Advisory Council met on April 23 to discuss the community's top 10 priorities as part of the Strong Neighborhoods Initiative.
The five years of its plan are up, and the community was able to check off four items from its top 10 list. Those items included the completion of Fuller Park and the Virginia Street heritage streetlights. Traffic and parking issues associated with Gardner Academy was also taken off the list because the coalition was unable to resolve the problems.
The neighborhood is now reviewing a new set of priorities and has come up with 100 items, which have been divided into 14 categories, said SNI spokeswoman Liz Ortiz.
Those new categories include how best to use the open space near Fuller Avenue, how to improve existing pedestrian crossings, the development of more neighborhood open space, and ways to resolve neighborhood traffic and parking issues.
The next community meeting will take place at the Gardner Community Center on May 14 at 7 p.m. at 520 W. Virginia St.
A final vote by the advisory council on a new top 10 list will take place May 21.
