Six Music in the Glen concerts will benefit school and charities
By Emilie Crofton
Good news for residents who can't get enough of Music in the Glen; this year's concert series will run for six weeks, from July 12 through Aug. 16. And the concert series will have some eye candy--a classic car show.
Every Thursday night residents can bring a lawn chair or blanket and listen to a different band from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the ball field at Willow Glen Elementary School, behind the new parking lot on Lincoln Avenue
Michael Rubino, president of the Kiwanis Club of Willow Glen, was pleased with last year's turnout of about 750 people per show and is hoping for an even better turnout this year. The audience has increased each year.
"With last year's great turnout we were able to present a substantial check to the school," Rubino says. "We are hoping for the same thing, if not better, this year. It's a great concert that benefits the whole community."
According to Rubino, people of all ages, from children to seniors, have come to Music in the Glen. Children can see the newly displayed classic cars or play in the park while parents lounge in the sun, enjoy some food and listen to the music.
Music in the Glen is a free concert series presented by the Kiwanis Club of Willow Glen with proceeds from the sale of food benefiting Willow Glen Elementary School, The Kiwanis Club of Willow Glen and other charities.
Supporters include the Willow Glen Resident, Coldwell Banker, Aqui Cal-Mex Restaurant, Roma Bakery, Tim Casey Construction and Blue Sky Funding, who help defray the costs and pay the performers so the event is free to the public.
Rubino says as the concert series increases so does the need for volunteers.
"The Kiwanis club community service organization is always looking for volunteers and members to help put on the concert," Rubino says.
Willow Glen Elementary School is located at 1425 Lincoln Ave.
