Huynh leads Rams to win over Overfelt

By Kevin Sparrer

Ricky Huynh is helping to pull the Willow Glen football team out of the cellar and bringing the Rams back into the running for the Blossom Valley Athletic League West Valley Division title.

The Rams lost their first two league games but have now won two straight after Huynh led Willow Glen over Overfelt 21-12 on Oct. 19. Huynh ran for 183 yards and scored two touchdowns on 21 carries in the win.

The Rams actually trailed 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, but Daniel Castillo hit Charlie Findeisen with a six-yard pass for a touchdown in the second quarter and Nathan Kadlecek kicked the extra point to give Willow Glen a 7-6 lead.

It wasn't until the fourth quarter that Willow Glen really took over the game, with Huynh scoring on runs of eight yards and one yard with Kadlecek kicking the extra point each time.

Huynh led the offensive attack with his 183 yards, that included a 50-yard run, but he had some help. Mike Gibilisco supported with 110 yards on 11 carries, including a 37-yard run, and Bobby Lopez ran four times for 21 yards.

Castillo completed 10 of 14 passes for 114 yards, including three to Findeisen for 49 yards and four to Kurtis Smith for 36. Huynh snagged a couple of passes for 34 yards and Lopez grabbed one for five.

Dalton Bond, Robert Morrey and Schuyler Ross were the defensive leaders for the Rams with 10 tackles each. Findeisen and Lopez were in on seven apiece, Dan Winter had six, Dane Gurley five, Huynh four and Jose Gutierrez three.
