Parcel at the corner of Curtner and Lincoln undergoing changes

By Mayra Flores De Marcotte

Owners of the former SilverLeaf Antiques site are tying up loose ends with a recent change in zoning.

The San Jose City Council unanimously approved the Scolari family's request to rezone the property at 1114 Curtner Ave. The parcel, a parking lot, is adjacent to the former SilverLeaf Antiques site, also owned by the family.

Douglas Scolari requested the zoning change from residential to commercial pedestrian, which enables the parcel to continue being used as a parking lot next to the adjacent commercial building, according to San Jose planner Rachel Roberts.

"There is no development being proposed at this time for this site, just parking improvements and landscaping," she said.

Scolari had also applied for a permit to demolish the former SilverLeaf Antique Store building on the adjacent 0.57-acre parcel so the family could construct a new commercial building that would include outdoor seating. The application has since been retracted.

"We had begun the application process with the intent to take the current building down and rebuild a smaller strip mall," said Brett Scolari, Scolari's son and acting project manager. "We recently found a single user that will use the current building and do their own renovations."

The project began because the current sites are made up of four individual parcels. The family will apply for a lot line adjustment to create all one parcel.
