PAL Rams headed to Vegas ... they hope

By Dick Sparrer

There's nothing like a Thanksgiving weekend trip to Las Vegas for the shows, the nightlife, the football ...

The football? Well, that's all the young members of the Willow Glen midget football team care about as they'll head to Vegas over Nov 21-25 to play in a Thanksgiving tournament.

The young Rams, one of four Willow Glen teams that play in the San Jose Police Athletic League football program, were invited to participate in the Western United States National Championships in Las Vegas thanks to their brilliant performance in the 2007 season.

Head coach Dave Blea's Willow Glen midgets caught the attention of the Vegas tournament folks by jumping out to an 8-0 start in the current campaign.

"We're so proud of them!" said Willow Glen Youth Football vice president Gigi Diaz. "They were invited to play in Las Vegas and they couldn't be more excited. This will be Willow Glen's first time there."

"They really are an awesome team--they have a lot of talent and so much heart," she added. "We would love to reward them for all their hard work by taking them to this tournament."

The Rams have one problem, though ... money. Willow Glen Youth Football doesn't have the funds needed to take the football to the tournament and is in need of help.

"If we can't find sponsors soon, we'll have no choice but to pass on this great life experience," said Diaz.
