Brandt, Sigman win special awards for Rams

By Kevin Sparrer

Sam Brandt proved to be the best in his class this past fall, at least when it comes to playing water polo in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

Brandt was honored as Junior of the Year in his division for his contributions to the Willow Glen boys water polo team.

While Brandt was the outstanding junior in the league, he was not without a strong core of players treading water next to him. Senior Charlie Kane was named all-league first team, and both senior Geoffrey DuBridge and junior Chris Greene received all-league second team honors.

The Rams finished the league season 3-2 and were 16-8 overall.

Just like Brandt proved himself the best junior among the boys, Lacy Sigman showed her prowess this year and earned the Freshman of the Year title for Willow Glen's girls water polo team in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL.

Along with Sigman, seniors Liz Bootorich and Lizzie Illges each received all-league first team awards, while senior Evelyn Cervantes and junior Alex Sigmund were named to the all-league second team.

The Rams' record at the end of the season was 4-6 in league and 4-14 overall.

Willow Glen's girls volleyball team had a winning season this year, finishing 7-6 in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL and 11-16 overall, led by senior Leah Mee who was named first team all-league. Junior Cara Schroeder received second team all-league for doing her part for the Rams.

Hendrickson top senior

Lincoln's girls water polo team proved that some Lions can swim, with senior Kelly Hendrickson receiving the co-Senior of the Year award in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the BVAL.

Along with Hendrickson, senior Sara Reis was awarded second team all-league honors.

Lincoln finished 1-4 in the division, good for fourth place. The Lions were 10-11 overall.

Hogan leads Leigh

The Leigh girls volleyball team struggled a bit this season, finishing 6-9 in the Mt. Hamilton Division and 10-22 overall.

Though the season may not have been as favorable as the Longhorns would have hoped, they did have a couple of standout players. Junior Rebecca Hogan was named first team all-league while freshman Kaitlyn Dickey received second team all-league honors.
