Rusty Hammer
will be missed
by community

Rusty Hammer, who at age 21 was the youngest mayor in the city of Campbell and recently resided in Willow Glen, died from acute leukemia on Jan. 28. He was 54.

Hammer was actively working with his wife Pamela and a group of individuals to open The Wellness Community Silicon Valley. The nonprofit was being created to offer free support and education to cancer patients and their loved ones.

All those touched by Hammer's death plan to continue his work in opening a local chapter.

City seeks
to fill elections
commission

The San Jose Elections Commission is accepting applications to fill a board vacancy for an unexpired term ending in March 2011. Those appointed are responsible for monitoring all campaign and ethics ordinances in the San Jose Municipal Code.

Applicants must be registered voters in the city of San Jose. All applications received by the Feb. 8 deadline will be submitted to the council, which will appoint the new member.

SJ group offers
support for those
with low vision

Atria Willow Glen, 1660 Gaton Drive, is hosting a Low Vision Support Group meeting Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. as part of Low Vision Month. The event will feature guest speaker, Carolyn Dingman, a specialist from the Vista Center for the Blind in Palo Alto.
