Kadlecek stars for Rams
in 6-3 win over Lincoln

Nathan Kadlecek was all but unstoppable when the Willow Glen baseball team collided with rival Lincoln last week.

Kadlecek smacked three hits, including a double, to lead the Rams to a 6-3 victory over the Lions in an April 18 game in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

The win evened Willow Glen's league record at 7-7 and its overall mark at 11-11. The Lions are 8-6 in the division and 10-6 overall.

Kadlecek was not alone in his efforts against Lincoln. Teammate K.C. Sullivan knocked a double and a single and drove in three runs, while Joe Sullivan ripped two hits, including a double, and scored twice.

Jake Goetz also did his job for the Rams, ripping a hit, driving in one run and scoring another. Dane Gurley also roped a single and drove in two runs, Ricardo Diaz added a base hit and two runs scored, and Kyle Ray and Tyler Heinkel each smacked singles.

Anthony Gotelli did the majority of the work on the mound, throwing six innings and only allowing two hits and one earned run, while striking out four. Diaz came in and threw one inning to get the save, striking out the side while allowing only one hit.

Ryan Cannon led the offense for the Lions with two hits, including a double, and he drove in a run and scored one. Michael Gattuccio helped with a double and an RBI, Frank Schiff roped a pair of hits, had an RBI and scored, and Nick Demartini smacked a hit.

Earlier in the week, it was Lincoln coming out on top 4-3 in eight innings.

Scott Healy roped a pair of hits and scored a run, Cannon had a single, drove in a run and scored one and Kris Heredia smacked a single and drove in two. Nathan Leon and Cameron Rodriguez each knocked singles and scored, and Schiff added a hit for Lincoln.

Healy had the starting duties on the mound and threw seven innings, allowing only two earned runs and striking out four.

For Willow Glen, J. Sullivan belted a double and a single and scored, while K.C. Sullivan cracked a pair of singles and had an RBI.

Kadlecek knocked a hit and scored, Gurley roped a double, scored and drove in one, and Diaz smacked a double and had an RBI. Adam Joyce smashed a double and Goetz also belted a hit in the loss.

On April 25, Willow Glen will host Sobrato and Lincoln will entertain Oak Grove in a couple of 3:30 p.m. games.

Pioneer, meanwhile, defeated Branham 12-6 on April 18 with Don Medlinger getting his seventh win of the season and Michael Boudinot blasting a grand slam for the Mustangs. Greg Schwartz also helped Pioneer by ripping a trio of hits, driving in two and scoring three runs.

For Branham, Gino Valletta clubbed two hits, drove in three runs and scored twice. Sam Whittemore and David Bailey each knocked a hit, Kyle Cool smacked a solo homer and Mike Cardoso and Erik Alcantar each singled and scored.

The Bruins bested Pioneer 8-0 on April 16, with Valletta belting a home run and a double and driving in three runs. Chris Mendoza knocked two hits and drove in a run, and Nick Rossetta doubled and singled in the win. Alcantar ripped two hits and drove in one, while Chris Urakami doubled and Kevin Wallace blasted a single.

Mendoza did a good job on the mound for the Bruins, tossing five innings, allowing only four hits and striking out four.

Bryan Oliveri knocked a double, which was one of only five hits for the Mustangs in the loss.

Pioneer, now 6-9 in the Mt. Hamilton Division and 9-10 overall, will host Leland on April 25 with the time yet to be determined.

The Chargers struggled a little last week, falling twice to Piedmont Hills--16-11 in 10 innings and 7-2.

Wes Deimling roped the ball for Leland, belting two hits, driving in two runs and scoring twice in the 16-11 loss.

In the 7-2 loss, Trevor Dyer smacked two hits.

Leland is now 4-9-1 in the Mt. Hamilton Division and 10-11-1 overall.

Leigh split in a pair of Mt. Hamilton Division games with Westmont, winning 3-1 after falling 6-3 two days earlier.

The Longhorns are now 13-2 in the Mt. Hamilton Division and 18-5-1 overall. Leigh will head to Branham on April 25 at 3:30 p.m.
