Higgins tosses Warriors to 1-0 win

Christine Higgins threw a shutout for a Westmont win in the Charlie Miguel Softball tournament on March 22, defeating Robert Louis Stevenson 1-0 when the Warriors scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs.

Higgins' record is 5-6-1 so far this year. Gabby Villa knocked a double for the Warriors in the win.

On March 21, Westmont fell to Fremont 6-2 with Higgins again on the hill. Courtney Fong led the Warrior offense with a pair of hits, including a home run.

Just the day before, Westmont fell 6-1 to Pioneer with Kelli Retzer ripping a pair of hits for the Warriors.

On March 18, Westmont dropped another game 6-1 to Leland with Jessica Barrett ripping a double and driving in a run in the loss.

Westmont was to head to Leigh on March 26 for a Mt. Hamilton Division Blossom Valley Athletic League game before hosting Live Oak on April 2 at 3:30 p.m.

Panthers lose two

Prospect's softball team dropped a couple of games last week, losing by forfeit on March 19 to Sobrato 7-0 and 10-0 to Mt. Pleasant on March 18 in only five innings.

Prospect is now 0-2 in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL and 0-9 overall and will host Branham on April 9 at 3:30 p.m.

Zeigle flips shutout

Lauren Zeigle threw a complete game shutout, striking out 10, to lead Del Mar to a 1-0 win over Milpitas. Aimee Myers scored the only run of the game.

The Dons lost 7-0 to Leland on March 22, with Myers knocking the Dons' only hit.

On March 20, Del Mar defeated Mt. Pleasant 9-7, with Zeigle striking out 14. Myers again was the offensive force with a pair of hits.

Del Mar fell 7-0 to Oak Grove on March 18.

The Dons are 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL. Del Mar will host Harker on March 27 at 3:30 p.m. and then head to Sobrato on April 2 for a 3:30 p.m. game.
